Steve

A huge thank you to Roy and the team at Fareham Wine Cellar for the generous donation of £200 and the bottles of wine.  The wine is to be auctioned at our curry event on Sunday 19 February.  We know the wine will be really good, and it should raise a fantastic amount more for the Rainbow Centre.

Thank you so much to Nik Powell of Lifesocks and Power 4 Gadgets for the donation of socks and iphone solar chargers.  I never thought I would say this but the socks are just amazing!  They are specially sculpted to allow blood circulation around your feet which stops them sweating and getting blisters.  I tried them out in the gym the other day when we were put through our paces by Jack Harrison and I have to say that my feet were probably the only part of me that still felt fine at the end; fresh not sweaty! Wow! We passed £4,000. Thanks you so much from us and the Rainbow Centre for all the donations, which are crucial to maintain the vital service the Rainbow Centre provides every day.

Not wanting to rest at that level, we have decided to up the ante and raise at least £6,000 before we embark on our Sahara adventure.

A big thank you to the team at Phoenix Company Consultants for their generous £200 donation to the Rainbow Centre.

This is an extremely worthwhile cause and every donation is gratefully received by the centre who would not be able to continue without this sort of support. Continue reading

Thank you to HJS Recovery for the generous donation of £1,000 towards our endeavours. It is much appreciated by both Paul, the Rainbow Centre and me.  I hope you don’t miss me too much while I’m away!

All donations, both corporate and personal, are vitally important for the Rainbow Centre.  They need the funds to function and provide an essential service. Continue reading

Kit, kit and more kit.  The list is obviously not endless, but it seems so!  The boots, the rucksack, sleeping bag, socks etc etc.  I had some.  I’ve acquired some and we’re nearly there.

But, it’s going to be massively hot and sunny.  A suitable hat is required.  After much research I have come across one that fits the bill – it’s guaranteed against wear and tear for life.  In fact I read that this model has been eaten by an elephant, cleaned up (I hope) and worn again!  So, it’s tough and when I have been eaten by a Camel Spider or Hyena at least the hat will survive!!   A Massive thank you to Simon and the team at Asset Recovery and Insolvency who donated a very generous £350 towards Paul Curtis and Steve Powell’s Charity Sahara Desert trek.

Thank you from us and The Rainbow Centre for your contribution.

OK, so far I’ve done some fitness training, so not bad. However, having gone through the recommended kit list for trekking in the Sahara I am way deficient. I’ve got boots, but that’s about it; my ruck sack is too small, so’s the water bladder, apparently clothing wants to be hi tec, i.e. not cotton, etc etc the list goes on.

Thanks to Raglan at Mindsheet for getting the website up and going this morning.  A real expert.  Great site name; easily remembered.  It already looks the business, even though we’ve only done the basics.  Can’t wait ’til the final version in a couple of days! Continue reading
